Chipotle just opened in West Hartford to major fanfare. (On opening day, the line for free burritos was up to two hours long.)
When we posted notice of it on A La Carte, the response was overwhelming. It was as if no one in the area had ever eaten fast-casual burritos. Despite the fact that Moe’s Southwest Grill is about a mile away.
So, my coworker Sara came up with a brilliant plan: a blind taste test of the restaurants’ burritos.
After a blind tasting of chicken, steak and veggie burritos from both Chipotle and Moe’s, our nine Courant tasters voted. Chipotle won 5 to 4.
As I was running the test, I stayed out of the tasting fray. But I snagged some leftover Chipotle later – and gotta say, Moe’s was the clear winner for me. Really not a fan of Chipotle’s cilantro-lime rice.
What do you think? Got a favorite?

Great idea to do the taste test, but I’ll take Moe’s any day over Chipotle.
As much as I tend to frown on Mexican food chains, and I go on-and-on about how much I miss California and how the food is so much better there, I’d welcome the option of either in Stamford.
California (San Diego) was the first place I experienced Chipotle.
Mexican food is not one of my favorite cuisines. I like it fine, I just don’t gravitate toward it. So you’d be hard-pressed to find me eating big burritos for lunch either way. But flavor-wise I preferred Moe’s.
Chipotle is WAY BETTER THAN MOE’S. Chipotle has way better selection. I can get exactly what I want 100% of the time, as opposed to Moe’s which only has standard burritos. Chipotle is also fresher. Chipotle’s service is JUST AS GOOD as Moe’s. And just a head’s up: Chipotle’s food is spicier. THAT IS GOOD. IF U DON’T WANT SPICY, U DON’T WANT MEXICAN!!!! I think Moe’s tastes exactly what my mom can make. My mom doesn’t even think it’s that good. Why pay for something when you can get better at home??? Chipotle is the better 1000%. No questions asked!
