I’m in the fourth month of my new life as a multi-market journalist, which sounds much more glamorous than it really is.

When I’m not writing about Connecticut restaurants, I spend 30 hours a week as a web producer for a western Massachusetts news site, where I’ve had to adjust to all new coverage. Suddenly the 2012 Senate race of note is Brown/Warren, not McMahon/Murphy. The State House is 90 miles across the state, not a few steps across the street. And there’s no “halfway point” between Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park dividing the fan base – our readers live and breathe Boston pro sports.

If you can believe it, I miss Hartford sometimes. So before Emily’s tremendous Yelp Helps Red & Black Ball at the Society Room Thursday, Rob and I snuck down to the city early for happy hour. I had one thing on my mind: $1 raw bar at Dish Bar & Grill.

While other local spots offer similar deals during weekday happy hours, Dish’s raw bar special goes above and beyond. During 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. – seven days a week -  raw oysters, clams and shrimp cocktail are all $1 by the piece. If you’re there between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays, you can take advantage of overlapping great deals with half-priced snacks and pizzas, $3 draft beers, $4 house wines and $6 Skyy martinis.

After putting away a dozen oysters, four littlenecks, four cocktail shrimp and an order of veal and cheese meatballs, we finished our discounted drinks. And then ordered up another dozen oysters.

All while wearing these fabulous red shoes. (That’s my pale calf on the right.)
